Anime Challenge Day 8: Most Epic Anime Scene

Hey everyone!

I want to first say I’m so sorry for lack of posting, midterms end tomorrow so I’ve been studying day in and day out, but I promise regular postings will resume Thursday!

You know, first I was going to write about an “actual” epic scene in anime, but I decided it would be best to go with my gut feeling which is a tad bit more humorous; the Death Note chip scene. This series was filled with so many mind boggling scenes that were without-a-doubt epic, but this scene sticks out so vividly to me. Light is definitely on his decline in terms of sanity, but getting more and more intelligent and powerful at the same time. He’s so fixated on deceiving L that he finds such joy in merely eating chips that have a mini TV hiding inside and writing names in the Death Note. I mean, hey, great for you and your deceiving buddy, but you’re literally on the verge of insanity here.

Anime Challenge Day 7: Favorite Anime Couple

Hey everyone!

The problem with this is that every couple that passed through my head was only in a manga and never made it to an anime adaptation; so when all else fails, you go with the classics. Kushina and Minato’s relationship from Naruto Shippuden gave me some serious “aw” moments, and it was really touching to see Naruto meet them both for the first time after watching the series for so many years. First love-only naruto-minato-and-kushina-olove seems to be a common theme in anime, and while it’s not my favorite, I guess it does work in this case given the fact they lived in a small village. Watching them as kids on the same team to living together, becoming hokage and having a child were really heart-felt, and I honestly wish that instead of random mission fillers we got fillers of their relationship and past. I grew to really enjoy these characters in the few episodes we saw them in, so it made me a bit disappointed (in a sad way) when their flashbacks ended with sacrificing their lives for Naruto, but we wouldn’t have gotten the whole series we did without Naruto’s loneliness would we?large (1)

Anime Challenge Day 6: Most Annoying Anime Character

Hey everyone!

SPOILER ALERT for FMA Brotherhood

If there’s one character I couldn’t stand from my favorite anime so far, it’s Selim Bradley, a.k.a  Pride from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Not only is this brat a homunculi in disguise, but he put my baby Alphonse in danger! It’s unforgivable! tumblr_lybul1uf8V1qcfqo5o1_500He’s the epitome of catfish too, looking like a kid but is really hundreds of years old; the nerve! What makes him even more annoying is what his character symbolizes in general, “Pride the arrogant,” and boy is he. There isn’t one scene with this kid that he isn’t trash talking everyone around him like he’s the best thing around since sliced bread. I can’t even begin to describe the happiness I felt when Ed destroyed his homunculi counterpart and he shriveled up into a mini human; no more alchemy for you ya little monster.giphy (2)

Ah, that was a long title.

Hey everyone!

I want to say thank you to Lita Kino Anime Reviews and The Anime Analyst for nominating me for this award. • Think up 3 questions you would like to ask the people you nominate.
  • Give one piece of advice to your fellow bloggers.
  • Make sure to tell us over here that you have been nominated (and/ or completed the award) so that we can put your blog up on the WakuWafu page! Make sure to put down your blog in the comments section!anime-wave                                                        Questions
    1. Why did you start blogging?
I don’t have that many friends that have the same interests as me and really wanted to connect with people that did! I also had a lot to say and rant about concerning University, adulthood and whatnot and figured this would be a great place to share it.
    2. If you were making a time capsule, what anime would you preserve for the people who opened it?
Pokemon. Everyone needs Pokemon in their life no matter the year; though, this doesn’t seem like it’s going to be an issue anytime soon. #AshIsImmortal
    3. Where would you go if you could be anywhere in existence?
Somewhere that gets nice and cold during the fall/winter and stays cool in the summer. I’m not picky so somewhere up north, Florida’s heat will be the death of me 😦tumblr_n5ne0dvxkO1qfxxzto2_500
Three Things To Know About Me
      1. I live in Florida but go to the beach about once a year…and when I do go it’s usually at night for a bonfire or something x)2. I despise horror films. Anything that’s scary in the least bit is a no-no for me, yet for some reason I love horror anime; it’s very strange.

      3. I’ve recently become obsessed with crafting and now have a growing collection of resin charms with cute stickers in them.   giphy My Piece of Advice
It’s okay to not go the traditional or “safe” route. If something makes you happy and you’re passionate about it, pursue it; sometimes it’s the passion that gets you there, not the certificates and degrees.

Anime Challenge Day 5: Anime Character You Feel You’re Most Like

Hey everyone!

This was so frustrating because even though I could name characters I look like or would want to be like, I really wanted to know which character I’m most like! Then, I got a text from my friend who’s catching up on Noragami and he said, “Alexa I swear Kofuku is you in anime form.” Talk about good timing, right?

Kofuku is extremely bubbly and has a vibe that just makes the people around her happy. She is carefree, and sort of ditzy, but she’s also willing to go out of her way for those close to her andtumblr_n1guhyY2mm1s103ldo5_r1_500 isn’t afraid of anyone or thing. Kofuku is the god of poverty and brings unfortunate events to those around her, so while I’m definitely not like her in that sense, I do see how our personalities compare. I’m generally always happy, and even if I’m not I’m making the people around me smile or laugh somehow. I live life as it comes, and of course mess up a few times from my occasional lack of common sense. Overall, we have a lot of similarities; I wouldn’t say we’re exactly alike, but it’s close enough for me.

Anime Challenge Day 4: Anime You’re Ashamed You Enjoyed

Hey everyone!

Not going to lie, I almost skipped this one; there just wasn’t an anime that stood out to me that I was ashamed I enjoyed, but then it hit me…Ghost Hunt. No, this isn’t some strange perverted anime or anything; it’s just…not that good . I am in no way an anime reviewer, but the English voice acting was disastrous, the characters had no substance to them, and the plot was just random as hell; yet here I am letting you all know I enjoyed every moment of it.ghost-hunt-oHonestly, I think it was the terrible voice acting and random storyline that made it enjoyable, because it was the only thing you could poke fun at. Mix in me and my sister at 3 in the morning with it and it was one hell of a party. Each episode we were like, “this is the worst thing I’ve ever seen…but it’s great?!” I mean come on, listen to the first 15 seconds of this video and tell me you didn’t laugh.

GO AWAY JOHN. I can’t forgive you for butchering a beautiful Australian accent.

Study Abroad: Summer or Semester?

Hey everyone!

Today I wanted to talk about something that was brought to my attention when I sought out my University’s academic advisor about my decision to study abroad for Spring of 2017. Though my minor is in Japanese, she seemed rather concerned that I would choose a semester over summer; I was equally shocked that she would assume I’d go for such a short length of time! If you’re thinking about studying abroad, take note of these points, they might just help you come to a conclusion or change your original plan.

  1. Why are you studying abroad?
This may seem like a simple question, but it’s an important one to say the least.  If the school offers a summer program (or semester) for your majorlarge that is prestigious and will look bangin’ on your resume in the future, then go that route. If it’s to learn and experience the culture of that country, well, you might want to stay a little bit longer than a month/month and a half.
  2. Financial Aid coverage
No, this does not apply to all forms of financial aid, but a majority of them do not offer coverage for summer or they require a certain amount of credit hours to be eligible. For me, this means 12 credit hours a semester or 9 a summer, and my summer is only covered by about a fourth it would be for a semester. This added cost would theoretically make my stumblr_n5582bN9NX1tv76txo1_500ummer study abroad cost only a smidge less than a semester session, and I would have to take 9 credit hours which would leave me almost no time outside of studying to explore and learn about the country. At first glance, summer may seem like the economical option, but in reality, not so much.
  3. Travel
Going on from my last post is travel; just how much do you want to see while you’re in the country? If your main focus is school and only school, this may not matter so much for you, but if you want to see the ins and outs tumblr_inline_mlh6azuuu61qz4rgpof the cities, towns, and countrysides, then you might want to seriously consider how much time this will take you. Think about exploring a major city in your country; yes, you could see the main sites in a day, but you can experience so much more of it on day two, three, and so on. Don’t underestimate how long it may take to really feel fulfilled in  your explorations. I promise you, whether it’s a month or four months, time will fly by and what you got to see is what you got to see.
  4. Connections
Remember your first day of class of your first year in high school? Looking for that one person that you knew, and not making friends with the people around you until a few weeks in? Imagine that all over, except this time in a new country tumblr_lnvvunZll41qbvovho1_400surrounded by people who may or may not speak your language (or at least fluently); just how long do you think it will take to feel acquainted with them? Yes, I do think that lasting friendships can happen from a summer study abroad, but I think the longer that you get to know someone by hanging out with them, traveling with them and overall just experiencing new things with them will really strengthen that relationship and be more satisfying.
  5. Weather and Festivities
This may seem a little strange, but it is something to really consider. In fact, it’s the reason why I chose spring over fall for study abroad; I wanted to see the sakura bloom. If you absolutely despise the cold, then spring or summer will be your best option; on the same note, if you hate the heat, then fall (or even spring) will be your best bet. This is important because tumblr_mvd64uv2161rhz43wo1_500after all the frustrations and hard work, the last thing you want to be upset and uncomfortable about is something like the weather. Also keep in mind festivities in the country you’re looking into. I chose spring in Japan because of the beautiful sakura blossoms, but someone may want to go in the summer to experience the Hanabi (firework festivals) or in winter for the New Year.

Study abroad is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and truly requires you to think throughly about what you want to get out of it. Like I said before, whether it’s one month or five, it’ll pass by in a blink of an eye and it’s entirely what you make of it with the time you have.

Anime Challenge Day 3: Your Anime Crush

Hey everyone!

I don’t think there has ever been a series that I didn’t cling on to one male character more than all the rest, and it’s hard to chose between my beloved Levi and Yukine but…I think I’d have to embfd1219e286ac416cf14158ac40bff006race the cougar within me and go with Yukine from Noragami (hence my blog header). His character really pissed me off in the beginning, but I can’t get over his design and how much he grows in just 12 episodes, let alone the rest of the manga. He’s lovable, funny, loyal, and has the cutest little beanie; I can’t take it! Actually, when I went to Anime Expo this past summer in Los Angeles, I scoured all of artist alley for Yukine fan-art with little luck and ended up asking people for commissions of him. So, I’m sorry Levi, but Yukine wins this round; I’m sure you’ll come up in this 30 day challenge again ❤  tumblr_mzasoiQIpk1to21edo1_r1_500

Anime Challenge Day 2: Favorite Anime You’ve Watched So Far

Hey everyone!

I really despise this question because I feel like it changes constantly and there’s so many great series I’ve seen that I can’t claim one to be on the number one spot, but for now I’ll say Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. About 10 or 11 years ago my sister and I had opposing obsessions; mine being Naruto and hers being the original Fullmetal Alchemist. I remember how excited she was a few years after it ended and it was announced there would be another series that strictly followed the manga, and for some reason I still wouldn’t budge to watch it. Fast forward to Winter break this past year when I finally sat down and started it….and then finished two days later. I could not stop watching! I thought, “Why didn’t I do this sooner? What is wrong with me?” The creator was not afraid to throw tragic events into the storyline or kill loved characters off. While I do love a happy ending, I also appreciate creators who take risks and switch things up on the reader for it makes watching the episodes more enjoyable and keeps you at the edge of your seat. I felt, I shipped, and I laughed, a good combo if I do say so myself.

30 Day Anime Challenge Day 1: First Anime You Ever Watched

Hey everyone!

So as I mentioned a few posts back, I haven’t been as active as I would like to be on my blog due to University, so I decided to do the 30 Day Anime Challenge! This way I can post more frequently and it can serve as almost a “filler” between normal posts 🙂 tumblr_n2pbbdtKjx1s6wllco1_400

So, the first anime I ever watched huh? Well, it would definitely be between Pokemon and Sailor Moon, because they both aired in ’98 through the 2000’s (and well, Pokemon just never stops airing). Pokemon pretty much ran all day on Cartoon Network, but I think Sailor Moon was mainly on Toonami. So, I’m not sure which one of these came first, but I do know that I spent my childhood looking for Pokemon and trying to get the one-legged Sailor transformation spin down (I always fell flat on my face)

I will say, though, that Naruto was the first anime I watched that I knew was anime, before that I just thought everything was just another show on TV, and between my time of Pokemon and Naruto, I watched tons of anime on toonami without knowing it. I remember my cousin introducing it to me when I was in third grade and he was like, “I know how much you like Dragon Ball Z, so I figured you would like this.” I was so confused when I heard Japanese and I was like, “I’m supposed to read my TV show??” I can fully contribute my fast reading ability to Naruto subs xDgiphy (1)
